Also referred to as cocktail weenies, little smokies are basically mini hot dogs introduced by the Hillshire Farm company. Today there are many other brands, so use what brand you love best.

Grape jelly lil smokies can be made with your preferred meat offering: beef, pork, chicken (or a mix of two) are the most common. As with hot dogs, we tend to stick with beef.

How to Make On The Stovetop

A little bit more involved than making this recipe in the slow cooker. Add the sauce ingredients to a saucepan over medium heat and cook for about 5 minutes. Add the cocktail wieners and toss to coat. Cook for 10 minutes

How to Make In The Crockpot

To make crockpot little smokies just dump, stir and heat. It really is that simple! Cook on low for 4-5 hours or on high for 2.5-3 hours.

Little Smokies Grape Jelly Variations

Little Smokies in BBQ – To make BBQ little smokies replace the chili sauce with your favorite BBQ sauce. 

Grape Jelly Meatball Recipe – To make meatballs with grape jelly and chili sauce, just sub in frozen pre-cooked meatballs instead of using lil smokies.

Spicy – Add hot sauce, red pepper flakes or cayenne pepper, to taste. Or add some minced jalapeños. Start with a teaspoon of hot sauce or a 1/2 tsp of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes. Taste and add until your desired spice level is achieved.

Substitution Ideas

Hot dogs – Sub in hot dogs cut into thirds. No other edits required.

Jelly – Like cranberry jelly or strawberry jelly? Use it instead of grape jelly.

Chili Sauce – Use garlic chili sauce or even ketchup. Just taste and add extra minced garlic or brown sugar if needed.

Ingredients

  • 28 oz Little Smokies
  • 10 oz grape jelly
  • 10 oz chili sauce

Instructions

Slow Cooker

  • Drain the little smokies and add them to a crockpot along with the grape jelly and chili sauce.
  • Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook on low for 4-5 hours or on high for 2.5-3 hours, stirring occasionally.
  • Serve with toothpicks and enjoy!

Stovetop

  • Place all the ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat.
  • Let the sauce cook for approximately 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Reduce heat and simmer for 8-10 minutes or until the Little Smokies are hot throughout.
  • Remove from the heat and rest for 10 minutes for the sauce to thicken.
  • Serve with toothpicks and enjoy!
